If you are a new designer welcome to the world of design. I hope you are as excited as me when I found my passion for UX.

Let’s start building your UX & UI toolkit.

When you are asking yourself which tools to use always quality over quantity. I found this to be true in almost all aspects of life.

This is totally my toolbox and you are free to use whatever you feel most comfortable with

Communication

  • Messaging: Slack & Email
  • Video: Zoom and Hangouts

Productivity

  • Time management: Toggl (It’s free!) or Harvest timer
  • Project management: Jira (Most often used), Asana, Notion, Trello or Basecamp. (Depending on the company or client)
  • Managing meetings: Google Calendar

Design

  • Interface & high fidelity wireframes: Sketch and Figma
  • Lo-fi wireframes: Balsamiq, Sketch paper with sharpies which I airdrop to Invision Freehand
  • Design System: Zeroheight, DSM
  • Prototyping: Invision and Marvel App
  • Dev export: Invision Inspect, Zeplin
  • Remote testing: Lookback
  • Measure: Hotjar, Google Analytics
  • User surveys: SurveyMonkey, Google Forms, Mailchimp

Sharing Files

  • Sketch Cloud, Google Suites, Dropbox, WeTransfer (up to 2 Gigs!)

Finance

  • Wave (loving this at the moment for my consulting work), Zoho

Other things in my toolkit:

Frontendy tip: If you do have the time Webflow is a great tool to create a close to weblike site.

I hope this will get you to a great kickoff in your first design project. :) This list isn’t extensive and I have not listed all possible tools. If you are interested in specific UX/UI roles always check tools required in the job spec and see if they are used for most positions.

That's me out, keep on experimenting and master your craft!
